Rhino Communications History
Rhino Communications started in 1996 as a compliment to our then computer and networking business (Duracom) in Durant, OK and was branded Texomaonline. We started with 8 modems providing dial-up internet to our existing Duracom customers and as the demand grew, so did the Internet division of our business.
In 1997 our business was growing beyond our expectations. We purchased a bigger office building and moved later that same year. We began expanding our access into the surrounding communities of Kingston, Madill, Tishomingo, and Atoka.
March of 2000 we made our first acquisition. We acquired Starcomm Internet in Duncan, Oklahoma. Starcomm provided service in the Duncan and Marlow Oklahoma markets . Later in 2000 we made our second acquisition. We acquired Compworld in Ada, Oklahoma. Compworld provided service to the Ada and Ardmore Oklahoma markets. These two acquisitions were a major milestone for the Company.
Since expanding our access to the Duncan, Ada, and Ardmore areas we were providing access outside the “Texoma” area, so came the name change to Duracom Solutions. Over the next few years we saw exceptional growth in our dial-up business and continued to grow into new markets. As the technology and the internet evolved we saw a demand to provide higher speed access to our customers.
In early 2005 we made the acquisition of Simplynet. Simplynet provided broadband wireless and dial-up in our Duncan and Durant markets. This allowed us to get a foot in the broadband Internet market. With this new technology we were now able to provide a service to our customers that was far superior to anything we had been able to offer through our dial-up.
By 2006 we had grown our existing wireless infrastructure by leaps and bounds. In November of 2006 we made another acquistion. We acquired Totalnet. Totalnet had a strong presence in North Texas and parts of Southern Oklahoma. Duracom Solutions, Simplynet, and Totalnet was the name everyone knew us by! For marketing purposes the Rhino Communications name was born. Rhino Communications now offers Dial-up service in over 200 communities in Oklahoma, DSL to the 580/405 area codes and broadband wireless in over 12 counties in Oklahoma and Texas.
