Kindergarten Procedure

 Mrs. Haynes Class

2007-2008

Arrival

1. Come as group from cafeteria. Enter building orderly and go to classroom quietly. If you do not go to cafeteria, knock on door and see if class is inside. If class has not arrived wait outside door until teacher and class arrives.

2. Put notebook with library book, notes, lunch money, etc inside in basket on teacher’s desk. Be sure name card is in library book.

3. Hang up bag or backpack or coat on assigned hook. Coat goes on bottom hook and bag on tops. If brought lunch put it in proper place. Take bathroom break and get a drink. Get school box, journal and go to assigned table.

4. Draw in journal and work quietly while teachers reports attendance and checks folders. Assignment should be on board or teacher will tell. Write date on 1st blank page and draw assignment. Take time to draw and color. Make it colorful. Only use one page. If you finish with journal, put it in correct place.(in box behind your number) You may get a book or some flash cards to do at your table.

Talking Procedure

Use correct voice- inside /outside. Try not to talk when the teacher is talking. Raise your hand or wait politely until time to talk unless giving popcorn answers. Pop corn answers are given when teacher is asking for group answer. Signal is fingers on one hand pop together. Only interrupt when emergency. Glove gives emergency rule – fire, sick, hurt, blood, or stranger

Helpers

There will be two helpers each day. They will be selected in number order. First number is main helper and other helps helper. Next day we will be move down one number. Helpers do jobs for day taking turns with such chores as holding door open, passing out papers etc. Helpers are listed in chart by calendar. Helpers move numbers at end of day. Helpers help morning routine, greet visitors at door, pass out items as needed, get to choose what do when required, and help teacher

when needed.

 

Cafeteria Procedure

Morning -

1. Go to cafeteria in morning. Go to assigned table. If you are eating go get a tray. Enter doors on left. Let cafeteria work get you name by checking fingerprint. Get napkin and fork. Place fork in napkins and napkin on tray at window. Hold your tray with both hands and stop to get milk sitting tray on edge of case still holding on with one hand, get milk with other. Put milk in proper compartment. Go to assigned table with other classmates. Eat your meal without playing. Visit with neighbor quietly. Empty your tray when you are finished and then stay seated at table. Do not get toys or items out of backpacks. Wait for teacher to come get you to go to classroom.

Lunch

1. Line up properly when teacher requests. If you brought your lunch get it as you line up. Go with class to cafeteria entering south west door. Quietly enter and follow teacher to get trays. If you brought your lunch, go to proper table. Use same procedure as in morning except sit as proper table in assigned place. First thing open milk and prepare tray to eat. You may visit with you neighbor but use quiet voice and use time to eat. Your teacher will be eating her lunch and doesn’t need to be interrupted. When lunch time is over, pick up tray and all trash, class follow leader in line and throw items in trash one at a time. Line up in proper place, keeping hands to self and voice low. Follow teacher and exit cafeteria being careful to not disturb others who are eating meal.

Drinks Procedure

1. Get drink at back water fountain as come in from recess or PE.or during time teachers is not talking or doing activity.

2. Do not put mouth on fountain

3. Wait in line patiently

4. Get drink quickly so others can get drink too. Using 5 sec rule if others are waiting.

5. Don’t go to get a drink when teacher is talking unless teachers tells you.

6. In cafeteria drink beverage with lunch unless really thiristy, coughing or other special occasion.

Remember when you are up you can cause someone to spill food.

7. At recess get clip and go straight to fountain or room and get drink, Immediately go back outside.

8. At assemblies or special events, only get drink in special occasions as coughing. Ask teacher before you go.

9. At PE follow teachers rules.

Bathroom Procedure

1. Go to bathroom first thing each morning and when come in from recess or PE.

2. Only one person in each bathroom. Girl’s bathroom has picture of girl and Boy’s has a picture of a boy.

3. Shut door when in bathroom

4. Knock on door before entering.

5. Don’t take anything in bathroom with you.

6. Flush stool before leaving.

7. After leaving bathroom, wash hands.

8. Use restroom quickly and do not play. Some one may be waiting.

9. Try to wait until teacher is not talking to go to bathroom. If you must go, go quickly and don’t miss any work.

10. In cafeteria or at special events, be sure you go before class leaves room. Only go to restroom in emergency situation. Ask teacher before you go.

 

Washing Hand Procedure

1. Turn on water.

2. Get a small amount of soap.

3. Wash hands very good. May sing happy birthday or sing ABC song scrubbing good.

4. Rinse hands.

5. Push button on towels once. For sure no more than 2 times. Tear off towel, starting at one edge.

6. Dry hands and put towels in trash.

Kleenex Procedure

1. Kleenex’s are placed in various places around room. If you need one go to closest place, get Kleenex, and sit down. Wait until not disturbing class to dispose.

2. If you have a cold and need Kleenex often, keep some with you, and dispose when you will not disturb others.

Greeter

1. Greeters are helpers for day. They answer door when someone knocks or enters. Helpers from previous day will be backup if helpers are busy.

2. Greet visitors with Hi and tell them where they are. Example Hi, my name is Judy, and this is Mrs. Haynes class. How may I help you..

3. If visitors wants to visit class, introduce them and find them a seat.

4. If visitors needs to see someone. Go quietly and get person or deliver message or item.

5. If visitor needs to talk to class, ask class to give attention to them. Example; Mrs. Haynes and friends, this high school student would like to tell us about some items they are selling.

6. If visitor needs to give teacher something or leaves things, have them put them on teacher’s desk.

7. Thank visitor or coming and shut the door after them.

Transitions

Hall Procedure

1. Line up in straight line by door.

2. Helpers are leaders.

3. Hands should be at sides, eyes straight ahead, and mouth closed.

4. Leader never goes with teacher unless told to go to certain spot and stop.

5. Walk on right side of hall or sidewalk and enter or leave in right side door.

6. If meet others you know, just wave, don’t’ make a lot of noise.

7. Keeps hands off walls.

8. Helpers hold any doors and then may catch up.

Line Up Procedure or Going to different place

1. Put pencil, crayons, and other supplies in box.

2. Put papers under box

3. Stand up and push chair in.

4. Walk to appropriate place.

Going different place in room.

1. Stand up when called cleaning table and pushing in chair.

2. Go quietly to place directed. Don’t run or make a lot of noise.

Trash Procedure

1. Put all trash in trash cans

2. All milk containers should be put in big trash can by sink.

3. Always check you own area for trash first.

Morning Routine

 

Class should stand and quietly put journals or activity in its proper place quickly. They should return to table and stand in their place quietly until everyone is in place. Class should do songs and recitations in unison. They should listen and answer as needed. They should face teacher as she welcomes class.

Class what day of school are we beginning? Helpers should help teacher place bus in proper place.

Teacher says let’s count days we have been in class. Students count with teacher.

We will now have our flag salutes

Flags

Helpers say with help of teacher is needed. " I am proud to be an American and kind I would like to be. Will you please stand, face the flag and say the pledge with me. Attention, Salute, Pledge"

Class faces flag and does flag salute together.

Helpers say "O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A Oklahoma, Oklahoma, my state. Attention, Salute, Pledge."

Class faces flag and does flag salute together.

Be very still during this time and show respect to our flags during this time.

Creeds

Helpers say "We will now do school creed. Ready, recite." Class says creed in unison.

Repeat for class creed and school motto. Be very still during this time and show respect to our school and classmates during this time.

Moment of Silence

Helpers say " We will not have a Moment of Silence, ready, begin. (set timer for 1 minute or watch teacher for signal) Thank you! Class is silent keeping hands not disturbing anyone so that can have this time for themselves.

Eight Expectations

Helpers say, "We will not repeat the Eight Expectations, ready, begin. Class recites expectations in unison using hand signals also.

Expectation 1 We will value one another as unique and special individuals.

Expectation 2 We will not laugh at or make fun of another person’s mistakes nor use sarcasm or putdowns.

Expectation 3 We will use good manners saying "please", "thank you" and "excuse me" and allow others to go first.

Calendar

This is a learning time, Everyone should sit quietly, and do activity with helpers without disturbing others.

Helpers add number on calendar and change clip on day of week. On first of month change clip on month.

Helpers begin singing calendar song. Others sing too.

When we do the calendar, we do the days, months, the years. Every weekday has a name. All the numbers look the same. So we will show you how we do the calendar right now.

Helpers say "Our date is (day of week ), Month, date, and year.

Helpers take paper coins from calendar chart and hold up. Class names coin and tells value

Play money song Class will sing song together.

Weather

Class sings Weather helpers as helpers check weather and report weather. Weather helper weather helper what’s the weather outside.

Go and look out the window and see the weather outside. Is it sunny, is it cloudy, is rainy?

Helps report. "Class weather is __________today and temperature is _____________.

(rainy, cloudy, sunny, snowy, foggy, windy, stormy, etc and temperature. Hot, warm, cool, cold, very very cold)

1.Teacher introduces quote for week. Students repeat it after her.

2. Quote is used during day when applies to problem situation or can be helpful.

 

PE Procedure

1. Students line up on numbers when directed by teacher.

2. Follow PE teacher to proper place.

3. Follow the teachers rules and line up when directed when PE is over.

4. Come into room quietly. Get a drink, go to restroom and go to table and sit quietly until class resumes

Recess Procedure

1. Use good manners and consider other people when playing.

2. Sit in swing. Don’t stand up or lay on stomach.

3. Don’t run in front or back of swings.

4. Don’t climb up slide. Sit down as you come down. Don’t hang off edges.

5. Don’t hold onto other people or cause them to fall.

6. Don’t kick!

7. Stay on south side of sidewalk by big toy unless have permission to play on basketball area.

8. If bathroom or drink break is needed. Get proper clip to go inside. BathrooomGirls – gold clip Boys – white Drink – Blue clips.

9. If you take toys or items outside, you are responsible for them not teacher. Remember they can easily be lost, broken or cause problems. Make good choices before you take things outside with you.

9. When whistle blows, line up on division sidewalk. Mrs. Sanders’ class on north side and Mrs. Haynes’ class on south side.

10. Listen to teacher on path to go back to classroom.

Paper Procedure

Passing out Papers

1. Take papers as teacher hands them to you.

2. Take one paper and pass other laying them down in front of next person.

3. Put name on paper if necessary and be ready to work.

 

 

Passing in Paper.

1. Start at back of table and pass to front laying paper in front of person. Make sure name or front of paper is showing. If you are not finished you may keep paper and finish when you have time unless teacher says everyone must pass papers.

2. Helpers go to each table and get papers put them in proper place.

Pencil Procedure

1. Keep one pencil and eraser in box.

2. If pencil breaks or is dull, put pencil in to be sharpened can, and go to proper place and quickly get new pencil, Be sure to keep eraser. Don’t get pencil when teacher is talking unless absolutely necessary.

3. Be sure to check pencil each morning so you don’t have to interrupt class to get pencil.

Box Procedure

1. Get box when entering room.

2. Check box for pencil, eraser, and crayons.

3. Put box on nametag on table on your side of table.

4. Don’t put hands on box or play with it when not using.

5. At end of day when finished doing work, put box back in school cubby.

Scissors Procedure

1. Keep scissors in special cubby until need

2. Return scissor in special cubby when not using.

3. Use scissor properly. Don’t run with them. Walk and carry them point down.

4. NEVER act like you are going to cut anyone.

5. Do not cut yours or anyones hair or clothes.

Glue

1. Keep glue in basket until needed.

2. Set glue in middle and share with neighbor.

3. Only use small amounts of glue.

4. Close lid and have ready for helper to pickup when finished.

 

Markers Procedure

1. Keep markers in special cubby when not using

2. Only get markers when teacher says you may use them.

3. Make sure marker is not going through paper onto the table. Get old paper or newspaper if needed.

4. Only take lid off when using and return it when finished.

5. Do not mark on hands, skin, clothes, or other objects.

6. Return markers to special cubby when finished.

Paints

1. Keep paints in special cubby when not using.

2. Return paints to special cubby when finished. Be sure to carry straight so paint does not run out.

3. Get cup and fill half full of water to use. Share with neighbor.

4. Make sure to have paper on table under paint paper so paint does not get on table.

5. When you are finished or time is up, pour out water FIRST.

6. Be sure brush in put in proper place and paint container is as clean as possible.

Music or Action activities

1. Go to proper area when activity begins. If leaving table, be sure to push chair in. Some places might be outer edge for circle movement, Open area, behind chair.

2. Listen to teacher and music so you can do activity.

3. Keep your body in your special area and do not disturb others.

4. If moving about room, move at correct pace and do not be silly such as falling down or bumping others.

5. Participate with group. Teachers is doing activity for special reason and you need to help unless special problem.

Center Time

1. Clean up area and be sure all items are incorrect place.

2. Go quietly to center.

3. If group center cooperate. Help get materials out, and clean up when finished

4. If individual chose, get clothes pin to area you would like to go. If there is not colored clothes pin

to area you would like to play, go to another area for now.

5. Cooperate with others that choose same area as yours. Do not change or destroy any thing they are working on. Treat them as you would like to be treated.

6. When you are finished or time is up, clean up center, storing items in correct place and return clothes to correct place.

7. Stop immediately when teachers asks or signals or time is up.

Computer Procedure

1. Use special care around computers. Try to not bump or drop any equipment.

2. When finished put equipment in proper place and push in chair.

3. Push control, alternate, delete to begin

4. Type username and password to begin.

5. Only use icons that teachers has explained.

6. If something appears that you do not recognize or unsure about raise hand and ask teachers.

7. Don’t holler at teacher, raise hand and wait patiently.

8. Don’t touch others computers unless teachers asks you to help.

9. TAKE GOOD CARE OF COMPUTERS.

Library Procedure

1. Each child may check out 1 book at main desk.

2.. When you return your book, you may get another one. Place book in special container with book mark placed on last page in pocket if they is one.

3. Children may go to library as group or in twos as teacher directs.

4. Enter library put book in check in box or lay on main desk.

5. Go to section for Kindergartens. (Book cases in middle floor on south end.)

6. Look at books and decide on one. If get book from case, return to same place.

7. Take book to main desk to be checked out. Tell librarian your first and last name.

8. Wait quietly on steps for your partner or group and return to classroom or designated area (computer lab)

9. Remember to use quietest voice in library and not visit unless necessary.

10. No running or playing in library

Fire, Safety or Storm Drill

1. Remain calm at signal. Listen and follow directions

2. If fire bell (continuous ring) immediately go to door pushing in chair if necessary). Don’t run or panic. Exit calmly, by cooperating and helping with others. Last person out should shut door if possible.

3. Exit classroom and go to outside west door. Continue to designated area (bench and tree in middle of playground on west side. Immediately get in number order to help teacher make sure everyone is there. Be quiet and listen to directions if need to move to another area.

4. If not in room, go with teacher you are with. Exit closest exit and follow her directions. As soon as possible tell adult your teacher so they can inform her you are safe.

5. If you are in hall exit closest exit and get with first teacher/adult you seen and tell them your name and teacher or go to designated area to meet.

Activities Outside Classroom

1. Line up orderly by normal routine. Follow teacher’s directions and exit room following teacher orderly.

2. When arrive at activity, stay with group sit in proper place. Do not leave group unless you tell teacher.

3. Use proper manners and voices. Always show respect or others and visitors.

4. When activity is over, remain seated or standing in area until teacher ask group to exit.

5. Exit place in order following teacher. You should not be talking and eyes should be on leaders.

Show and Tell Procedure

1. Bring items on show and tell day. Leave it in bag until teacher asks you to get it.

2. Bring items that are easy to carry, are not very valuable and will not break. (If you have big items or valuable things maybe an adult can bring it one day.) Remember that even though we try, sometimes things can be broken or lost.

3. Sit in area with item and keep it to yourself until it is your time to show. When you show item, tell what it is, and then tell class things about it. Might include where you got it, what you do with it, why you like it. When finished showing item put it back in backpack.

4. It is not a good idea to take items outside to recess. They can be lost, broken or cause problems at play. If you do take things outside, it is your job to keep up with them, not teacher.

 

 

Backpack Procedure

1. Be sure your name is on you backpack and you can easily open and close. Know where you keep each item.

2. When you enter room take out necessary items and hang backpack in proper place on hook.

3. Only look in your backpack.

4. When it is time to leave. Get backpack as called and get things to take home from proper place. Notebook and all take home papers should be in takehome cubby. Go to table and place item in bag and zip it closed. Do not put coat in bag in cold weather. You should be wearing it. Put backpack in proper place until time to leave. (under chair)

5. Do not take things out of notebook or bag until you get home. Help you parents or those who help you with things, remember to look in bag each night and prepare for next day.

 

 

Dismissal Procedure

1. Get bag and things you are taking home .

2. Stand up and push chair in. Stand quietly without talking until teacher says to go to dismissal spot. Listen as teacher calls those who are picked up or walk and bus line.

8. Go to door and find assigned spot and turn to listen to teacher. Keep your hands to yourself and your feet on your number.

10. Follow teacher as she takes you to parent or bus. .

11. Do not leave until you are sure teacher sees you leaving. Give a high five, tap hand. or kind touch.
